Reaching out on recruitment

Reaching out on recruitment

Recruitment can often be a challenge for social care organisations.  But rather than dwell on this problem, ELCAP is taking a “glass half full” approach to growing its staff team.

Business Manager, Lara Ritchie, who is leading ELCAP’s recruitment efforts, said:

“If ELCAP experiences a challenge, our approach is to roll up our sleeves and do something about it.

We want to recruit more Support Practitioners – partly to ease pressures in some of our services, but also to allow us to make a difference to more individuals – so we’ve taken a range of steps to ensure we can attract the right people with the right values.”

Reflecting on the changes ELCAP is making, Ritchie said:

“We have streamlined our recruitment processes, to reduce the time between an application reaching us and new colleagues starting work in our services.  We are making improved use of social media, which is enabling us to reach more people who are looking for a career change.  And we are attending events where we can spread the word about our charity’s life-changing work.”

ELCAP has recently taken to the road to promote job opportunities.  Outreach activity has included meeting job seekers at Musselburgh Job Centre and taking an ELCAP table at a car boot sale in Port Seton.

“ELCAP will attend any events where we’ll get an audience and have an opportunity to talk about the benefits of a career with us.  While some may think that a car boot sale is an odd place to recruit staff, we knew it would raise our profile, while allowing us to meet local people with an interest in our organisation.”

Next up for ELCAP is a social care jobs fair on 29 April 2022.
