ELCAP staff and supporters donate to New Beginnings Club

Staff profile: Hannah Nairn

When did you join ELCAP and what were you doing before you joined?

I joined ELCAP around March 2017, so nearly four years ago. I had a few jobs throughout school and college.

Before I started with ELCAP i was commuting to Edinburgh doing door-to-door charity work.   I raised awareness of charities and encouraged people to sign up to support them.

What is a typical day at work like?

There’s no specific typical day as no-one lives the same way every day. There are things which are set in a routine but this is beneficial to the people we support.

Each day teaches me different things, whether it’s about my responsibilities or the individuals I support.

What’s the best thing about ELCAP?

The best thing about ELCAP is that it is a company which puts the individuals we support first. They have a voice and they get heard, which is so important. They make the decisions in their lives to the best of their ability.

And what could we do differently or better?

Staffing can sometimes be a problem. Teams should be gelled together well.   Most are but sometimes things change when staff leave or new staff come in.

What’s your dream dinner?  And who are your dream dinner guests?

I’ve never really thought about this question before but my favourite dinner would be a classic chicken roast dinner and – due to COVID – I think my dream dinner guests would be my family.

Who is your favourite singer or band?  What do you like about them?

My favourite singer is Pink. She is vibrant and realistic. Very honest also.

Tell us something about yourself that might surprise us.

I did three years in college and achieved an HND in Acting and Theatre Performance.   That was my original dream, but I love my job and I am so pleased to be a part of this company.
