Andrew falls 10,000 feet for ELCAP

Andrew Forrest, Secretary of Capital Credit Union and an elected member of East Lothian Council, has fallen 10,000 feet – literally – by completing a fundraising sky dive for ELCAP.

Thanks to Andrew’s generous support, our charity is on course to benefit from a donation of over £1,000.  Reflecting on skydiving 10,000 feet, Andrew said:

“I had a ball doing it.  It’s something I’ve always wanted to do.

When Capital decided to perform 30 Acts of Kindness, I told our Chief Executive, Marlene Shiels and our President, Donald Urquhart, that I wanted to do something spectacular for our finale.  I think we achieved that.

Because of the strong connections between Capital Credit Union and ELCAP, we decided to lend our support to the charity.  I’m pleased to have played my part in supporting a local good cause.”

A stunning video of Andrew’s sky dive is available on ELCAP’s YouTube channel.  If you are an armchair thrill seeker with a head for heights, we think you’ll enjoy it:

The fundraising jump, which had been postponed until recently because of COVID-19 restrictions, took place at Skydive St Andrews in Fife.

Explaing the background to Capital’s support, Chief Executive, Marlene Shiels, said:

“Capital Credit Union is delighted to be involved in raising funds for ELCAP.  The work that the organisation does is so critical and very much aligns with Capital’s policy of helping people help people – building communities one person at a time.

We very much value the relationship between our two organisations.   To be able to raise some much needed funds, as part of Capital’s 30th anniversary year 30 Acts of Kindness, meant a lot to everyone at our organisation.  What a great end to a great 30th year.  We looking forward to continuing to work with ELCAP going forward”.

Andrew will conclude his fundraising efforts on Monday 7 June 2021, when he will close his JustGiving page.

Thanking Andrew and Capital Credit Union for their kind support, ELCAP Chief Executive, Paul White, said:

“We are proud of our strong links with Capital.  I’m just one of many ELCAP colleagues who joined the credit union to save regularly and borrow affordably.

We were delighted when we learned that Andrew had decided to raise funds for our charity.  We congratulate him and the team at Capital Credit Union for their brilliant efforts on our behalf.

Every penny raised will be used to support Our Voice, Our Choice.  This innovative project involves us working with Speech and Language Therapist to improve how we understand and meet the communication preference of the individuals we support.”
