SUPPORTING CHILDREN AND FAMILIES

All children need support. However, for some children, and their families, the need is greater due to disability or some other factor. We work in partnership with families and health or social work professionsl to provide that support, at home, at school or at play.

Kinds of support

In the home:

  • with a child who has support needs - to let the parents spend time with other children or one another
  • with the brothers and sisters of the child with support needs - to let the parents spend time with the individual child
  • sitting service - to give the parents a break out of the house (with or without other children)
  • helping to learn skills in everyday living
  • crisis care - providing live-in or intensive visiting support if the parents(s) has/have to be absent for any length of time e.g. for hospital treatment

Outside of the home:

  • nursery/playgroup/mother and toddler/school
  • social activity - parties, clubs
  • individual activities and interests - existing or new (swimming, music, art, drama, sports etc)
