General Features of the role of support worker in ELCAP
  • To support the person you work for to protect and maintain his or her tenancy. To help the person to use his or her rights as a tenant and also to be a good tenant and a good neighbour.

  • To build a relationship with the person you are supporting based on trust and mutual respect. To do the same with others important to the person involved in their lives.

  • To provide agreed levels of care and support to help someone to maintain and develop their skills and abilities both practical and personal. This may include bathing and personal hygiene.

  • To ensure that all necessary household tasks are carried out, including cooking, laundry and shopping, with the maximum possible involvement of the person being supported.

  • To assist with and/or take responsibility for the person's prescribed medication. Please note, this may include for example, administration of suppositories and Rectal Diazepam.

  • To keep records which enable you and your colleagues to deliver a high standard of support that is consistent. Where necessary, to complete incident reports and other documents to inform your line manager of changes and new risks.

  • To be responsible for assisting the person you support in the management of his or her day to day finances and for enabling them to manage their household budget and annual spending plan.

  • To assist the person to plan and achieve positive goals in his or her life through the pursuit of socially valued interests and activities.

  • To seek opportunities for the person to make connections with people in the community, and support the growth of real friendships over time.

  • To work in ways that enhance the person's status and role in the community and upholds his or her rights as a citizen. To promote a positive view of the person and know how to respond to negative attitudes.

  • To be committed to ELCAP's values, aims and objectives and follow ELCAP's policies and procedures.
